I'm sorry, but did I read the same book as all those 5 star ratings??? Where do I begin? As I have stated before, I HATE to write negative reviews, I understand how hard it is to put pen to paper... or fingers to keyboard...whatever (smile), the point is, I understand how hard it is, then all the work to get it online, the editing, marketing, etc. Believe me writers, I GET IT. So most of the time instead of writing a poor review, I just suck it up. Not this time.But first, two positives. First, the cover was beautiful. Well done. Second, I really liked the character of Jacob. Now to the rest of the book.
Boy Howdy, this book was a hot mess. First the Hero was a weak jerk. He felt he could not leave his wife because he took a vow. But you never got WHY he took his vow so seriously. You never really understood who he was and how he allowed his wife to TREAT him. No. no way, I canna go there (faking a Scottish accent). No, not every Hero has to be an alpha male, but he DOES have to be a male. This guy was a mop.
Now the Heroine, well, I honestly don't know where to start. I know nothing of her, her age, what kind of work she does, how she looks, beyond the basics, nothing. She doesn't work but she owns a house. She was going to marry her 1st love while still in HIGH SCHOOL, she was still in college, but we never know what she is studying, we never know how old she was or anything about her family or friends. She had her head in the clouds...or in my world she was a silly, immature girly-woman child just wanting to have a baby...why? How did she get the money to go through the process? The only reason I could figure out why she wanted to have a child was because she didn't want to have her heart broken again? WHAT????? THAT'S a reason to have a child? How unfair to the child?? How was she going to take care of the child? What was her plan? GURRRRR (pulling my hair out in frustration!!!)
I'm not going to write about the "ex's". I refuse to waste my time or my computer power on those two. You know a book is bad when the only character that had any sense was a secondary one that didn't even have a last name.
Ms. Howard, this book was bad. Period. Technically, it was all tell, not show. The plot points were silly, the characterizing was woefully incomplete, the pacing ponderous. I don't know if you had a proofreader or an editor. I'm hoping for your sake it was a proofreader, because if it was an editor, he/she is not your friend and you should fire them immediately. This book read like a rough first draft.
Please understand, I am NOT flaming you or hating on you. I am not that type of person. I am avid reader and it distresses me when I read a book like this. Everyone has a bad day. But this book was so bad I don't know if I will read you again.

Kevin a billionaire who is married wants a child with his wife Ellen but she tells him she had a hysterectomy at age eighteen and can't have children. Kevin always wanted a child and he decided to get a surrogate Marina who had a lovely personality and tried to live life to the fullest. They give birth to a daughter which his wife finds out about. Ellen has never been faithful in her marriage even with Kevin being faithful to her.
it is sad to see so many1 starts for a book that was good. We have a man Kevin who some consider a wimp because he want curse out his wife, abuse, or do what is considered alpha or being a male. We dont need to know why he didnt want to break his vows, but the fact that he has show to be a man of his word which keeping his word is important to him, but a t some point kevin should have listedn to Jacob better and paid attention to him before he found his wife doing the dirty at the gardner. I do agree that the writer at this point could have made Kevin stronger instead of making him become a door mat and rely on other people to get him out of the hot water. Marina was hurt and we knew she had a job, she was taking care of herself, she was independent, and the fact that she wanted to have a child and raise that child on her own guess what women are doing it every day either by choice or because they ended up in a bad situation. I love the support that Kevin got from Jacob and mac. I wish we could have seen more of Sara because please she knew all that was going on in that house. The ending towards the end when Marina woke up when it came to her ex was priceless. The book was definitely more than just OK
I don't even know where to begin! I am ashamed that I spent the money for the version and the Audible version, ugh...
This story line would have been much better, had you put some thought into what you were writing. I agree with one of the other reviewers, you were all over the place. In my head, if your hero is a Billionaire, he has to have some balls somewhere, how else would he have achieved what he has. For your hero to let his, selfish wife do the things she did without some consequence was astounding to me. He is a wet mop, sucker with no backbone. I'm sorry, but if I found my wife screwing another man, I would not have a calm discussion about how to work this marriage out (pussy)!
Now to the Heroine, OMG! How old was she, why was she still in school, was she in High School going to marry her boyfriend? What career did she have, you mentioned it several times, I was waiting to find out, maybe she inherited the home from her Grandmother along with a substantial amount of money, but nope, she's in school still and taking care of a baby? What kind of woman takes a man back after he leaves her at the alter, because he couldn't be a man to her, huh??? She was too soft and I cannot stand a soft woman and then have a soft man too. OMG! Kill me now!
Do not waste your money, I did so stupidly, twice and now have to read something else to get this crap out of my head. By the way, how could Kevin continually tell her about how Lamar left her, while he's being a pussy for his own relationship. I understand vows, but for the love of all that is good, just screw her the woman you want so badly and dump the gold digger and let her have the lawn guy. I wasted an hour and a half struggling to get thorough this and only to be disappointed. I know it's romance, but the love scenes were lame and not sizzling at all. I want a book with lots of storyline, a story, a plot, sex, revenge or something and this one lacked it all. Sorry for such a horrible review, but this was such a waste of my time. Read some other authors, get some pointers, anything, because if this one so bad, I can't imagine what your other books are like.
