Until now, I thought I simply lacked the imagination necessary to read fantasy novels. I am an avid reader of true stories. I couldn't even finish one Harry Potter book. But, the way this novel developed the characters, mixing the worlds of fantasy and reality, and unfolding it like a mystery, I was hooked! I laughed and cried. I love a story that evokes emotion. A big thank you to the author, Oz Monroe, for making it easy to imagine and enjoy something other than my usual fact based stories. I absolutely loved it.Product details

From the gasp-inducing, grab-you-by-the-throat opening chapter to the twisty final ones, Soil-Man captivated me, had its way with me and Stockholm-syndromed me into yearning for more from my captor. The author enriches his tale with well-defined characters and a confident plot that carries the reader to an unexpected and powerful climax. Reading this book was a thrill-ride I would highly recommend for anyone who likes prose with octane.
Full disclosure, I know the author. Years ago we performed together as jugglers. I supported my friend by buying his book but I was honestly blown away. I am a bit too ADD to read for fun but this book flowed and carried me away. It was hard to put down and I never lost focus. I am so eager to get the next one! Thank you Oz, Love the Symphony!

This is not my usual genre of subject matter. That being said I was intrigued by the cover excerpt and hooked immediately from page one. I was entertained as well as horrified with the subject and forced to think of things in a way very different than I have known. The ride was a wild one, and as with any roller coaster when you are on it you are white knuckled and wondering why you ever wanted to freak yourself out by getting on. Then it is over and you cant wait to go again! I am ready and looking forward to more from this series and this very original author. Well done Sir!
What a brilliant novel! When I finished SOIL-MAN, I wasn’t ready for the story to end. I wanted to spend more time with the characters because they’re so well written.
I do read some fantasy, but I don’t usually read angel tales. The description intrigued me enough to read the sample. By the end of the sample, I had to read the rest of the story. There are times when you root for the characters to escape their dilemmas, and others when you want to shake them because they got into the dilemmas in the first place. They really couldn’t do anything else though because of who they are.
I liked the philosophical views and questions raised by the story. I especially liked the idea on how some or perhaps all religions began. The book has violent moments as seen in the opening, but they felt appropriate to the tale.
When the ending came, the story felt finished but with the opportunity for the characters’ adventures to continue. I’m looking forward to the next one!
The opening grabbed my heart in a vice grip and I was immediately plunged into a vivid and dark world where nothing is what we think it is. I literally could not put Soil-Man down and read it through in a single day. Oz Monroe plays with your emotions like a symphony conductor knowing just what chords to hit to wring the most out of each scene. I laughed out loud and sobbed, sometimes at the same time. The complex characters kept me guessing all the way to the end which I didn't see coming. That alone is rare in a book these days. I usually know where a book is heading within the first quarter to half of the book. I cannot believe this is a debut author and I eagerly await the next installment in the series!
A truly fresh and original take on celestial power struggle, with rich characters who are often not what they seem. From the startlingly powerful opening, I was hooked by Jon's story, and empathized with his pain. His journey from being a deeply wronged pawn to one of the most powerful pieces on the board is fascinating. Can't wait to see how the game ends.
An excellent first novel, looking forward to seeing Oz's storytelling skills develop in future works.
It has been some time since a book has gripped me this solidly. I am working 60 hours a week and haven't read a book through in several years. I powered through what little time I have between work and sleep in two nights. I was drawn in by the the beautifully original story, the ferocity of the characters, and oh man, the descriptors, they never failed to aptly fuel the mind with image after wonderful image.
The character work alone is fantastic, and I cannot wait for the second book to be released, you can bet I'll be in line.
Thank you, Mr. Monroe, I have a space on the top shelf of my bookcase just for you.
